Beijing!

Made it to Beijing….kinda gruelling flight given the small footprint afforded on planes these days. And this was a big wide-bodied number. It’s a bit discouraging when you first take off, after a long day, realize you have almost 14 hours of being trapped in a space barely larger than a winter coat and that even the act of trying to sleep will require some creative contortions and a vain effort to find a socially acceptable sleep position.

Beijing airport is pristine when we arrive…sanitized almost. I can’t reconcile the size and beauty of this airport with the sparsity of aircraft in the loading bays. Perhaps it’s the time of day…or perhaps capacity is awaiting demand. Nonetheless, the efficacy of the airport is impressive…JFK was a fine example of adaptation…Beijing is where JFK would be if nuking the existing airport and starting over was an option.

Wifi is not quit as ubiquitous here…so I’m having a bit of a hard time adapting, but there is enough history and culture to keep me more than occupied enough that I barely have time to keep up with the tech. I am taking lots of pictures though so I should be able to update each post a bit later…check again!
